My Caravan Dreams

I think we might be going away this weekend. We didn't really get to do much vacation stuff this summer except for the church activities we participated in (and come to think of it, that's actually a lot). Being a homeschooling SAHM in a tropical country, summer doesn't really have that much impact on me, except temperature-wise. I like being able to do summer stuff (camping, watermelon parties, swimming, etc.), but I personally prefer to travel during shoulder or off seasons (I hate crowds). I would love to have an RV and visit various places, staying in one caravan park after another. I love the word caravan. It evokes romantic imagery -oases, gypsies, Agatha Christie holidays... It's safe to assume that I also just love Loreena McKennitt's(?) "Caravanserai" (I'm a huge sucker for Celtic music). I used to play the song all the time when Marguerite was still a newborn. Anyway, this RV road trip dream of mine is also inspired by an old childhood book of mine from the Trixie Belden series. In book number 2 ("The Red Trailer Mystery"), she and Honey Wheeler stayed in a trailer park while looking for a runaway friend of theirs. Incidentally, another inspiration is Enid Blyton's (I'm reinforcing suspicions that my mind is stuck in the world of children's books) "Five Go Off in a Caravan" (btw, if you have the TV adaptation - either the '70s or '90s version - and don't want it anymore, throw it this way). Anyway, that road trip might actually happen one day. :)

I used read Enid Blyton's Five series avidly when I was a child. I felt totally involved in them in a way that I never did with the Secret Seven series, for some reason. However I didn't get the caravan bug from them. :)

Hi, Sheila. Glad to know you were also an Enid Blyton fan. :)
